UPP-DeniFiltrera

Deep-bed denitrification filter

Biological denitrification · chemical phosphorus removal · filtration

Biological denitrification, chemical phosphorus removal and filtration combined in a single tertiary process.

UPP-DeniFiltrera design model — cutaway showing filter cells, distribution header, backwash pumps and clear-water tank

Nitrite and nitrate nitrogen, total phosphorus and suspended solids are removed together. Effluent NOx-N below 3 mg/L is achievable.

A carbon source and, where phosphorus removal is required, a coagulant are dosed ahead of the filter in a rapid-mix stage. The bed operates at constant water level; as headloss builds, the cell is taken through air scour, combined air-and-water backwash and water backwash, then returned to service.

Backwash water is drawn from the filtered water tank and the backwash waste is returned to the head of the plant.

Performance

  • Effluent NOx-N < 3 mg/L
  • Simultaneous TP and SS removal
  • Constant water level operation
  • Air scour, combined and water backwash

Typical applications

  • Tertiary nitrogen removal
  • Surface water Class IV discharge standards
  • Plant upgrades
