SanCoFlo
Sand-ballasted high-rate clarifier
Specific-gravity ballast · higher surface loading · smaller footprint
A specific, chemically stable, closely graded sand is added as a nucleus for the floc, making it denser and faster-settling.
The ballast raises effluent quality and surface loading at the same time, which cuts the footprint of the plant.
The SanCo-Tube draft-tube system holds the flocculation performance of the system.
Sand-bearing sludge is recirculated from the bottom of the settling zone back to the flocculation zone to hold the substrate concentration. Surplus sludge passes through the media recovery system, where the sand is separated and returned; only the waste sludge leaves the system.
Our own impeller design, draft-tube design and the rethink of sand-bearing sludge recirculation and separation give SanCoFlo lower operating and maintenance cost than both conventional sand-ballasted clarifiers and plain high-rate clarifiers.
Performance
- Effluent SS ≤ 5 mg/L
- Effluent TP ≤ 0.3 mg/L, and as low as 0.05 mg/L
- Settling-zone surface loading 20–55 m³/m²·h
- Sand consumption < 2 g/m³
- Sludge drawn off at high concentration — no thickener needed
Typical applications
- Tertiary treatment
- Plant upgrades within an existing footprint
- First-flush stormwater
